Summertime Playing

We love summer at the Frank Hamilton School! There are so many opportunities to play outdoors in different parts of the city, taking our “Second Half” on the road and getting people all over to sing along.

Recently a group of us played during the High Museum’s wonderful program, “Family Sundays.” We met so many interesting folks from around the world, shared the tent with “tiny dancers,” and sang with three different audiences throughout the afternoon.

This was also a chance for our students to play out with us. Part of the Frank Hamilton School’s plan is to create playing opportunities for those who learn with us. Last month people who met in John Harvey’s Playing in a Group class played a set at the Atlanta Friends of Folk Music’s Fiddler’s Green on a Saturday night; more musicians from the same group will be opening for Back in the Saddle at Eddie’s Attic on Sunday, July 2.

Whether people want to perform in a full-on “show,” go out with some teachers and play in the community, or just feel comfortable joining in a house jam, we’re on it!
