9:00AM — Beaver Tour @ FHS
Did you know Decatur Legacy Park has beavers in the nature preserve? Beavers in Decatur! And, our own Tony Able is the park’s “beaver guy“!
Tony will be conducting a beaver tour for us FSH-ers on April 2 at 9:00 AM. The tour will cover approximately 1 mile of hiking through the woods, over rough terrain, to view the five beaver dams that make up the Legacy Park beaver complex. These dams create rich wetland, pond, and stream habitats, supporting diverse aquatic, terrestrial, and avian species.
We’ll also observe forest restoration efforts, including the removal of invasive plants and replanting with native trees and shrubs. While beavers are fascinating animals that can sometimes be active during the day, they are primarily crepuscular (meaning active during twilight!), and there is no guarantee of seeing a beaver on the tour.
The school will be open at 8:30 for a 9:00 walk into the woods. The tour is free, but tips to the tour guide would probably be appreciated! Come do a little exploring with us!
End time is approximate.
