Description
TERM 6, 2026
INSTRUCTOR: Keith Berland (bio)
DAY/TIME: Tues – 7:30pm, In-person
INSTRUMENT: Fiddle
LEVEL: Beginning
What makes fiddle music sound like fiddle music? In this class, we’ll use the rich tradition of Irish music to explore the feel of fiddle playing and learn how to bring the tunes to life on your own instrument.
Irish tunes have been passed from player to player by ear for generations, and we’ll learn them the same way, building listening skills that will serve you long after class ends. Along the way, we’ll work on tone and technique so your playing sounds fuller, cleaner, and more confident. We’ll dig into rhythm, the lilt and pulse that give Irish music its lift, exploring how the bow creates that drive and how small changes can turn a string of notes into music that makes people want to dance.
Above all, this class is about finding joy in playing. Whether you’re just getting comfortable with the fiddle or have some tunes under your belt, we’ll move at a pace that works for beginner and intermediate players, with plenty of support and room to grow.
Come ready to listen, play, and have fun.
This class meets in person.
