Protest Songs of America

TERM 5, 2022

INSTRUCTOR: Frank Hamilton (bio)
TIME: Thu – 7pm, In-person only
INSTRUMENT: All instruments and singers

Americans have never been known to sit quietly by when upset by what’s going on in their society. Protesting is an American institution. And many of those protests are moved forward by the sound of the protest song – a song written to solidify an idea of change.

This class will take an historic look at some of those protest songs throughout our history, from “Yankee Doodle” to “This Land is Your Land” – songs that have rallied the cry of change through the years. Learn the song’s significance as well as the song itself.

This class is not intended to be a commentary on today’s issues and does not “take sides.”

This is an in-person class.
