Southern Fiddle Repertoire

TERM 4, 2024

INSTRUCTOR: Evan Kinney (bio)
DAY/TIME: Mon – 7:30pm, In-person

Are you someone who wants to expand your catalogue of fiddle tunes or perhaps learn some fun lesser known “B sides”? Well, this is the class for you!

I’ve dedicated a large portion of my time studying and learning tunes from the 78rpm records made by southern fiddlers in the early 20th century and would love to share them with you.

We’ll start with learning simplified easy-to-remember melodies, but we won’t stop there! Spending some time adding the “cool licks and tricks” from the original recordings and exploring variations and regional styles will make these tunes really stand out and give your fiddling that southern drawl.

Intermediate students will be right at home here, but all skill levels are welcome to attend. As long as you know how to hold your instrument and play a few tunes you’ll be able to learn some cool stuff!

This class meets in person.
