Old-time Rags and Blues

TERM 4, 2024

INSTRUCTOR: Mick Kinney (bio)
DAY/TIME: Tue – 6:00pm, In-person

Right between traditional old-time music and early jazz, lays the era of ragtime. Explore a craze that swept the nation!

Dating back to the late 1800s through the turn of the century, raggy tunes and songs are a fine addition to any repertoire. With easy material selected for folk ensembles, we’ll cover such pieces as “St. Louis Tickle” (1904), W.C. Handy’s 1912 classic “Memphis Blues,” and 1895’s “You’ve Been a Good Old Wagon” (but you done broke down!).

Instruction provided for both melody & chord rhythm, all instruments and levels welcome.

This class meets in person.
